Astragal has become increasingly excited at the growing numbers of footballers investing their pennies in things architectural.

How heartwarming it was to see former England winger Steve McManaman at the sales launch for ats in Manchester's massive Beetham Tower.

McManaman (Big Mac) and newborn offspring (Mini Mac) were seen loitering on the periphery of the bash to showcase the £350,000-a-pop apartments in (Long Black Mac-wearing) Ian Simpson's skyscraper. However, the former player was grumbling that his two ats were not yet ready.

Perhaps his old footballing pal and unlikely property tycoon Robbie Fowler has a space in one of his many terraces available in the meantime.
