Rules governing access to new buildings may be extended to existing buildings and car parks, and guidance on access to nondomestic buildings may be tightened, following the launch of a new consultation by the DETR.The move follows the implementation of revised building regulations on disabled access (Part M) in October 1999. The DETR is keen to get views from disabled people, and wishes to incorporate opinion on behalf of children, women with pushchairs and 'even people with a fear of heights'. It does not explain whether the definition of disability would cover such groups.
