BIRMINGHAM JEWELLERY QUARTER PEDESTRIAN LINK Open competition to provide a pedestrian route, a new viewpoint and a landmark structure. The competition is part of the Jewellery Quarter Urban Village Initiative - a partnership aiming to promote and develop the historic jewellery quarter in Birmingham city centre. A prize of £10,000 will be awarded.

HOLISTIC HOTELS Ideas competition for architects and architectural students interested in environmentally conscious design to influence thinking on a ubiquitous, commercial building type. The competition, sponsored by the Design Advice Service, will address sustainable development issues raised by new build on a real urban site near Cardiff. Submission deadline 27 February.

SUSTAINABLE SCHOOLS Ideas competition that will address issues raised by new build (a new school or school extension) on a real urban site.

The competition is aimed at raising awareness of sustainable and low-energy school buildings and examining the potential benchmarking standards, such as the 'eco-point' system. Deadline: 28 February.
