Astragal enjoyed a visit to Vinopolis, the new interactive exhibition on all things viticultural on London's Bankside. The museum, a 'Wine Odyssey', is based in the reworked vaulted arches near Southwark Bridge. At the site, wine expert Oz Clarke and Culture Secretary Chris Smith (eventually) performed the official opening, the latter tugging at a 10ft tall inflatable champagne bottle to release red white and blue balloons right on cue. Clarke made a characteristically passionate speech, noting that Brits have drunk more wine year on year since 1980 - except for the year Margaret Thatcher resigned: 'I think it was shock'.
