Radical changes must be made to the way new housing is delivered in Scotland, a director of Scottish Homes told the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations last week at its annual conference.

Stuart Nichol called for housing associations to join forces to boost standards of design and construction. 'We need a commitment to change and a mindset that thinks in a sustainable, efficient way, 'he said.Scottish Homes is to be replaced by a new executive agency on 1 November, which will deliver a new funding mechanism for social-housing providers.

'The average size of investments we currently invest in is around 20 houses, which isn't efficient across the board, ' said Nichol.
