Radical Reading

  • Comment

My old friend and quaffing partner, Paul Davies offers an interesting further slant to the great debate about radicalism and architecture. At the Reading Festival, he notes that while a group called Atari Teenage Riot sing in German about the need to obtain ak-47s to shoot the police, the town's youth sit in silence - they only want to hear Blur. 'Make it a city and build a cathedral' is Davies' brisk response to such apathy. Reading is, of course, bidding for the coveted title of city, though whether it wants a cathedral is quite another matter.
