Question mark over Fosters' £80m Moorgate scheme

  • Comment

Uncertainty surrounds Foster and Partners' £80 million office and retail block at Moorgate in the City of London following the developer's decision to order only a partial demolition of the existing office building.

Demolition contractor Keltbray is carrying out a so-called 'soft-strip' of fixtures and fittings because developer Moor House Partnership is still thrashing out core issues such as budgets and final designs, the AJ has been told. The partnership is considering refurbishing the existing building rather than moving ahead with the Foster design.

Moor House Partnership refused to comment, but the City of London surveyors department confirmed a soft-strip was under way.

Sited at the intersection of London Wall and Moorgate, construction of the 29,100m 2,19storey scheme is scheduled to begin next year and is planned to take 30 months to complete.
