prp Architects is to take the platform at a major housing conference and advise how to pinpoint housing estate crime spots.

prp will tell the National Housing Federation's annual conference how councils and other social housing groups can assess and manage their properties through graphics.

Speaker Simon Kaplinsky told the aj: 'Using graphics allows you to overlay information on house condition surveys. You can flag up crimespots or areas where constant repairs are needed.' Geographic information systems combine building data with socio-economic information. This helps social landlords manage their property for maintenance and unlock funding for future projects through efficiency savings.

The National Lighting Design Awards 2000, launched tomorrow (18 Sept), will highlight projects with imaginative illumination. Architects and designers are invited to submit schemes by 24 September.
