Protect the activity, not the title

Sue Lindsey's piece on registration (aj 11.2.99) raised some interesting questions, as it is not just the riba suffix which may get us into a pickle.

For example, if one is not registered (which I am, to save the snoops and whistleblowers looking), and one is an ex-aa student or qualified at Nottingham, shall we not be able to display our qualifications on business cards and letterheads?

When is the profession going to address the real issue that it is not the professional title that must be protected but the practice of the profession. Come back Alvin - all is forgiven.
