[First look] Pringle Brandon Drew has unveiled proposals for a 39-storey mixed-use skyscraper in Shoreditch, east London
The 0.8 hectare development will house 400 residential units, two office buildings and 3,600m² of retail. Around half of the site will be public realm.
The remains of Shakespeare’s Curtain Theatre were unearthed on the plot during archaeological investigations. The ruins will be kept on site in an enclosure featuring an exhibition on Elizabethan theatre.
Parts of a nineteenth century brick railway viaduct will also be incorporated into the scheme, featuring shops and cafes within the arches.
The overall scheme is designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent and the residential units are aiming for Code Level 4 in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Pringle Brandon Drew is shortly expected to be renamed Pringle Brandon Perkins+Will. Both Pringle Brandon and offshoot Pringle Brandon Drew announced | plans | to | merge with US company Perkins+Will earlier this month.

‘Having uncovered an internationally important archaeological discovery, we have the unique opportunity to create a centrepiece which is accessible to the public and provides facilities to showcase The Curtain Theatre’s cultural importance. We will be working closely with the Museum of London Archaeology and English Heritage throughout the process to safeguard this amazing find.’
A planning application is expected to be submitted to local authority Hackney Council in the summer.
