The quality of historic building preservation in Britain will be recognised with the introduction of the RIBA's Southern Region Conservation Award. Categories of the award will follow a four-yearly rotation, beginning this year with 'Pure and Expert Repair'. Under this category, excellence in repair work will be rewarded and highlighted as industry examples. The award is the creation of regional chair Robert Franklin, who took up his post 18 months ago and hopes to inform a wider understanding of the role of conservation architects within the profession. Buildings completed during the past five years will be eligible for the award.
