Help . . . I watched the TV Programmes, I was there on the day it opened, I studied the studies and scanned the photographs and I went back again. I don't understand all those eulogies for the Tate Modern.
Am I the only person who looks at the 'Great Stair' and sees the blemishes, the inappropriate finish, the lack of detail? Who finds the lighting scheme brash and ugly? Who walks into galleries that are poorly lit? Is that entrance ramp awkward only to me?
I must be missing something.
Who can explain why this is good architecture? Help me, please.
