Perfect perforations

  • Comment

Stephen Holl's latest building is in Amsterdam for social-housing organisation Het Oosten. Largely a refurbishment, it also includes this new pavilion which houses a conference and dining area. Pre-patinated perforated copper panels sit 720cm outside the stuccoed walls, which include patches of solid colour. The passer-by's views of the building, and perception of its colour, change both as they move and with the light. The use of perforation continues internally, with perforated aluminium panels forming part of the palette of materials.
