Penttinen Schöne unwraps inflatable pavilion

[First Look] Fitzrovia-based Penttinen Schöne has revealed these images of its temporary play space project in Basildon, Essex

Drawing its inspiration from insects and the ‘natural world’, the inflatable structure features a ‘unique’ external shape and patterned internal space.

Emma Penttinen of the practice said: ‘We held design workshops with the artist organisation  “The People Speak” where we discussed what a design process involves and how the children see design.

‘[We] got the idea of doing a design that takes inspiration from the natural world and insects to really create a space for the whole family, a kind of futuristic living room with an organic wall paper.

‘[It] was also very interesting to work within an environment as the Craylands estate as it was quite dilapidated and had a kind of forgotten spaces so we realised the significance of creating something new and different and design driven which people can interact with and have ownership to.’

The mobile structure is intended for events, community and festival use.
