My dear, anyone who is anyone attended the Tate Modern opening last week, and Astragal was on hand to report the proceedings first hand - though I failed to recognise any other architectural journalists at the event, other than Deyan Sudjic, who is just taking up his new job as editor of Domus.Nor were there that many architects, though politicians abounded, as did artists, fashion designers, authors etc. Apart from Herzog and de Meuron, I noticed, among others, Jan Kaplicky and Amanda Levete, David Marks and Julia Barfield, James Burland, Mr and Mrs Will Alsop with Mr and Mrs Bruce Maclean, Sir Jeremy Dixon and Julia Somerville, Lord and Lady Rogers, Philip Gumuchdjian, and Mr and Mrs Rab Bennetts. The organisers did a splendid job in ensuring that Tony Blair did not bump into Ken Livingstone as they did their respective tours of the building.
Astragal's verdict on the gallery: taking the project in the round, 10 out of 10. This one really will run and run.
