Robin Partington Architects has the green light to replace Richard Seifert’s 1972 International Press Centre on Shoe Lane in London

The 1 New Street Square for Land Securities.development will create around 30,000m² of office space together with new restaurants and shops.

The 60m-tall 1970s tower is one of three buildings that will cleared on the site south of Holborn Circus.

Colette O’Shea, head of development, London Portfolio, Land Securities, said: ‘New Street Square has become an important London location and has helped put Midtown on the map.  1 New Street Square will be a natural extension to the area, making it even more attractive to potential occupiers.  It will bring much needed grade A office space to London in 2016 and help maintain London’s reputation as an attractive place to work.’

Work is expected to start in 2013 and complete in 2016.

  • Its a real shame that Peter Murray and his marketing gurus couldn't come up with a better label for this diverse bit of London. Midtown, what is it? This is London or should I say London, England for the American movie going public.

Perhaps AJ should have a competition to come up with a name that better reflects this part of the world.
