Work has begun on an £11.5 million revamp of Glasgow’s Theatre Royal designed by local architects Page\Park
The project, for client Scottish Opera, is aimed at creating a world-class venue in time for the Commonwealth Games in the city in 2014.
It received a major boost earlier this month when the Heritage Lottery Fund awarded it a grant of £850,000.
A grand new entrance on the corner of Cowcaddens Road and Hope Street will provide spacious foyers, bars, box office, cloakrooms, toilets and hospitality suites.
Lifts will be installed for the first time, significantly improving access to all levels of the theatre, and an education suite will enable wider delivery of arts teaching.
A roof garden will offer views across the city.
Page\Park saw off the likes of Caruso St John and Nord Architecture to win the prize project in 2010.
