Oyster sauce

Sadly, Foreign Office Architects' wonderfully surreal Belgo restaurant in Ladbroke Grove came just too late to get a plug in the movie Notting Hill, charting the endlessly interesting lives of the endlessly interesting media folk who live in the area. Perhaps the formal games of warping strips into volumes and voids doesn't agree with the celluloid mentality, as few of them were in evidence at the packed and jolly opening, although Richard E Grant was rumoured to be on the guest list. Even critic Paul Johnson's presence could be explained as support for the cause of family values - his son Luke owns the chain - although he didn't deign to comment on the architecture. 'Jolly good oysters,' the master-fulminator opined.
