I read with interest your article on Oxford Business Park (aj 21.10.99), but feel I must correct a few important details about the nearby football stadium.
Firstly, the half-built football stadium to which you refer has fortunately never had anything at all to do with Robert Maxwell, having been started some time after his death. The reason that it is standing half-built is quite simply that the club ran out of money to pay Taylor Woodrow.
Secondly, planning consent to redevelop the existing ground on the London Road has not been refused: it has still never been sought. The good news is that with a new buyer for Oxford United we are at last hopeful that both sites can be successfully redeveloped and the rusting shell to which you refer will now become the state-of-the-art stadium that Oxford has long been waiting for.
