Jean Nouvel's 1993 Lyons opera house was shut down this week after safety inspectors declared that the stage and its machinery were dangerous. The French move follows machinery hiccups at the Royal Opera house in London. It increases the pressure on French architects after a number of state architectural projects in the country have suffered high profile technical problems.

Paskin Kyriakides Sands has been awarded planning permission for this £3.5 million mixed use scheme in Primrose Hill, London (above). The site is between the west coast main rail line and the Prince Regent Canal in what was formerly stables for horses working in Camden Goods Yard.

PKS plans to build 2000m 2 of office space and six residential units. Original features such as a brick tower and horse steps will be retained.
