OSA creates Sleeping Policeman for pedestrians

  • Comment

The Office for Subversive Architecture has completed this speed bump for pedestrians in a busy passageway in the centre of Tilburg, Holland

Painted in traditional ‘sleeping policeman’ yellow, the installation in the alleyway between Paleisring and Koningsplein includes furniture, bookshelves and an existing street light.

A spokesman for the innovative art and architecture collective said: ‘[The project] transforms what is usually no more than a short route to Koningsplein, which no one really notices, into a place where people can slow down, rest, think and exchange information.

‘By adding furniture and bookshelves to the space and incorporating an existing light into the work, [we have] created a connection with the functions of the nearby buildings, the public library and a furniture shop.’ ‘

The installation is part of the temporary ‘Pods’ art and architectural ‘invasion’ of the city which runs until the beginning of November (2010).
