Ever wondered what it takes to be a great practice manager? Claire Herniman, stalwart at Edward Cullinan Architects, provided some insight at the launch of the AJ/Colander Bench Mark 2003 last week. Asked how she felt about the process of filling in the detailed forms that are required for this in-depth study of a practice's business performance, she made a startling confession. 'I am the kind of slightly nerdy person who enjoys filling in selfassessment tax returns, ' she said, 'so I absolutely love doing the Bench Mark forms.' The audience was divided equally between those who felt they would like her assistance with their own forms, and those who wondered if she had any free time to untangle their problems with the Inland Revenue.
