Quality of design is becoming a key factor in demand for residential apartments in Oman, according to a new report by global chartered surveyors and analysts Cluttons
Its Q1 Property Market Update found that tenants were now valuing architecture along with location and space when choosing homes and that demand for well-designed apartments was strong.
It said: ‘Tenants are looking for well-designed, well-built properties, paying attention to features such as good quality fixtures and fittings, outdoor space, leisure facilities and excellent maintenance.
‘Tenants are increasingly willing to compromise on the size and even location of a property rather than on its quality.’
The report said demand was high in the established central areas of Qurum, Shatti Al Qurum and Madinat Qaboos.
It said the coastal suburbs of Ghubrah North and Azaiba had become increasingly attractive through significant development, while The Wave and Muscat Hills remained in demand.
Cluttons said there was evidence that the non-oil sector of the Oman economy was growing as it tried to reduce its reliance on the substance.
Tourism in Oman is set for a significant boost after being named one of National Geographic’s top 20 destinations and Lonely Planet has called its capital, Muscat the second best city in the world to visit.
Three quarters of residential demand in Oman is for apartments with two or three bedrooms, according to the report.
