ArcelorMittal Orbit tower mastermind Anish Kapoor and Thomas Heatherwick, who designed the 2012 Games’ Olympic cauldron, have been named on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list

The Indian-born artist, known for his huge sculptures and who has already been appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2003, was knighted for his services to the visual arts.

Meanwhile Heatherwick was made a CBE for service to the design industry, just days after revealing plans for a garden bridge across the Thames.

In the development world, Jonathan Falkingham, chief executive of Manchester-based Urban Splash, was made an MBE, 14 years after company co-founder Tom Bloxham received the same honour, also for services to architecture and regeneration.

Purcell’s John Burton was made an MBE for services to the conservation of historic architecture while Keith Falconer, lately the head of Regional Office, Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England received an OBE.

There were also gongs for Tate director Nicholas Serota, who became one of just 42 people currently listed as a Companion of Honour, and potter Grayson Perry, who was appointed a CBE.
