Ollier Smurthwaite submits plans for 285 homes in Irlam

Ollier Smurthwaite Architects has submitted plans for this 285-home scheme in Irlam, on the outskirts of Manchester

The £24 million project on green belt land features a mix of cottages, townhouses, live/work units, manor houses and finger barns as well as six football pitches, three tennis courts, a children’s play area and a new central square with a farmers market.

Describing the scheme practice co-founder Matt Ollier said: ‘[The scheme] is to be built on Chat Moss which was a vast peat bog, was fertilised during the 1800’s by night soil - poo - from Manchester. The land was then used to produce fruit and veg for the population of Manchester.’
