Presidential candidate George Oldham has failed to meet the required number of nominations, leaving three remaining candidates in the contest.

Oldham who vowed to tackle the issues of low pay and protection of function obtained 52 nominations, falling 8 short of the number required to stand.

The Institute has confirmed that Angela Brady, Richard Parnaby and Roger Shrimplin will now fight it out for the next RIBA presidency.

Following last Friday’s deadline, the three remain candidates will now begin campaigning with the crisis at RIBA London set to dominate. The chair of the region, Azar Djamali, was forced to resign last month (AJ 06.05.10) ahead of an unprecedented vote of no confidence in her leadership.

The electoral reform service will conduct a 5-week ballot of all chartered members until July 22nd.

When elected, the president elect will take office in September 2010 and will then serve as president for a two-year term beginning a year later.

The RIBA expects to have a result for the presidency once the membership have voted..
