Nothing changes so how can standards improve?

  • Comment

So Tony Blair has appointed Lord Falconer, who has presided over the Dome fiasco without any acceptance of personal blame, to chair a government committee tasked with improving standards of public building (Astragal, AJ 28.9.00). You couldn't make it up!

Such bureaucratic meddling in the realms of architecture is the trade mark of totalitarian government which history tells us is doomed to failure.

However, we should not be entirely surprised that the sole qualification for such a sinecure is to have been the flatmate of the prime minister at some time in the past - plus ca change!
