The RIBA has launched the 2012 Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship award, open to students of all RIBA-accredited architecture schools in the UK and abroad
The scheme awards a grant of £6,000 to a single student to fund a research trip overseas.
While the destination is chosen by the student, the research proposal must be related to the survival of towns and cities.Architecture schools may submit one entrant into the scheme and each institution has its own method of selecting a student.
Foster said: ‘As a student I won a prize that allowed me to spend a summer travelling through Europe to study first hand buildings and cities that I knew only from the pages of books. It was a revelation - liberating and exhilarating in so many ways.’
He added: ‘Today it is my privilege to fund the RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship, which I hope will have a lasting legacy - offering the chance for discovery and the inspiration for exciting new work - for generations to come.’
The deadline for entry is Monday 26 March 2012.
