NORD to design Glasgow youth hospice

[First look] NORD has been chosen to design a new building for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, a charity which provides palliative care for terminally ill young people in Glasgow

The project is sheduled to completed in 2016 and is being planned for a site close to the hospice’s existing facilities which has yet to be finalised.

Alan Pert, NORD director said: ‘We are thrilled to have been appointed for The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and are greatly looking forward to working closely with the Hospice team in realising a landmark project for the City of Glasgow.

‘Undoubtedly this is a demanding brief that requires a need for practical problem solving with inspirational design ideas to fully compliment the Hospice’s Philosophy of Care. We believe that just as the care focuses on the patient and not the disease, the building should do the same.’

Rhona Baillie, chief executive of the hospice added: ‘We are delighted that NORD will be working with us on the build of our new Hospice. Throughout the tender process we have been extremely impressed with Alan Pert and his team for their creative approach and ability to form great relationships.

‘Alan has been cited as one of the UK’s leading lights in the field and he has surrounded himself with extremely gifted and talented staff, evident in their design portfolio.

‘NORD are a Glasgow based company with a passion for everything Glaswegian so are an ideal partner for us as we build the future of the city’s Hospice. We are very much looking forward to working with NORD on this exciting project over the coming years.’

Students at the Glasgow School of Art and the University of Strathclyde have been invited to assist with the project. NORD split earlier this year leaving Alan Pert sole director of the Glasgow-based practice.
