The Architects’ Registration Board (ARB) has confirmed it will keep its retention fee at £80 for next year (2012)
Although the board ‘voiced its concern over the continuing economic difficulties being faced by architects’, there was no repeat of last year’s decision to reduced the annual charge (see AJ 17.09.2011).
Fraenkel: This may be the last year for a zero increase
ARB chair Beatrice Fraenkel said: ‘As with last year, we hope that keeping the fee at £80 will help architects at a time when the construction industry is facing a severe downturn while the costs of running a practice are increasing.
‘The efficiency savings programme that we have been running has counted in part towards the freeze, and the Board also recognised that now was not the time to place increased pressure on the profession by raising the fee.
‘However, we did acknowledge that this may be the last year for a zero increase, but this will, of course, depend on the circumstances prevailing in 2012.’
