[First look + plans] Nicholas Hare has been chosen to design Stratford School Academy – the first Priority School Building Project (PSBP) in the capital

The 10 form-entry secondary school will be split across two sites on Grosvenor Road and Upton Lane.

The Upton Lane base will feature a 20-place autistic spectrum disorder facility integrated into the school.

In a statement, the AJ100 practice said: ‘Upton Lane will incorporate a 20-place Autistic Spectrum Disorder facility which will be fully integrated into the school.  This has never been done before in mainstream schooling and Nicholas Hare Architects are thrilled to be involved on such an exciting project.’

Earlier this month contractor BAM beat Kier to land the £75 million the London batch of priority schools.

Schools included in the London batch are:

•  Stratford School Academy (Secondary)
•  Lansdowne School (Special)
•  Hawkswood (Pupil Referral unit)
•  Harris Academy Greenwich (Secondary)
•  Harris Academy Bromley (Secondary)
•  Pardes House School (Primary)
•  Maria Fidelis School (Secondary)

Nicholas Hare’s £29 million Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College scheme in Birmingham, also for BAM, won the RIBA LSC Further Education Building Design Excellence Award in 2009.
