Urban Splash has been true to its name on the banks of Castlefield's Bridgewater Canal with this 'space capsule' on steel legs, clad in aluminium. The £200,000 floodlit design, just opened, has fabric inside panels, circular wc pods and is a sales office for apartments that are part of the £50 million Britannia Basin project. Urban Splash will use the 22m- long capsule to sell 74 loft flats in a former art deco box factory.
Gordon Murray + Alan Dunlop has submitted this £5m design for planning as part of a new, five building 2,200m2 office scheme at Edinburgh Park. Three are by Allan Murray Architects, one by czwg.
This sketch by David Chipperfield (above) is one of more than 30 concept designs by a wide range of architects in an eclectic assemblage called First Thoughts, produced for the Architects Benevolent Society by Wordsearch (who also provided the design for the abs Ball). The book, which includes photographs of the completed buildings, is available at £15, proceeds to the society. Send cheques, made out to the abs, to Wordsearch, 5 Old Street, London EC1V 9HL.
