Bexhill on Sea's Grade I-listed De La Warr Pavilion is to have a new bandstand, its architect to be chosen by competitive interview.

The £35,000 stand, which may be demountable, will be around 40m2 with a maximum height of 3.5m. It will be built on the south terrace of Erich Mendelsohn and Serge Chermayeff's 1935 pavilion.

The judging panel will include John McAslan of John McAslan & Partners, which has been restoring the pavilion since 1991. It will interview up to six architects. Deadline is 21 December, with shortlisting on 11 January and interviews on 8 February. Contact the riba competitions office, tel: 0113 234 1335.
