Hutchison Kivotos Architects, London N1
Founded: January 2010 (to become 1:1 Architects from October 2010)
Main people: Gavin Hutchison and Simon Kivotos
Where have you come from? We met at ORMS in 2005, where Gavin spent nine years having previously worked at Foster + Partners on Hong Kong Airport, Studio Libeskind in Los Angeles and his father’s office, David Hutchison Associates in Glasgow. Simon cut his teeth at Nicholas Burwell Architects and had a spell working at Harper Downie Architecture Design.
What work do you have? A mix of office fit-out projects; base-build refurbishments for developer-clients Derwent London, Great Portland Estates and Lancer Estates; feasibility studies for developers and investors Mitsui, Endurance Land and Threadneedle; and refurbishment and remodelling projects for private residential clients.
What are your ambitions? Our priority is to focus efforts on producing quality work to develop our voice and build a strong base for a growing practice. We are working with existing clients, but are keen to expand our contacts through referral or competition. Our ambition is to expand to the full extent of our abilities to produce quality architecture.
How optimistic are you? There will be difficult times and we have a lot to learn, but we have faith in our abilities.
