The Architecture Foundation is launching design festivals on 21 August for London's West Ham and Plaistow in Newham, one of the government's 17 New Deal for Communities areas. Up to £50 million has been set aside for the area. Design teams Fluid and MacCreanor & Lavington Architects will talk to residents about what they want to see in the area. Walter Menteth has completed these new homes (above) for the Ujima Housing Association in Wandsworth. Shortlisted for a riba Housing Award the scheme has eight one and two bed flats. They feature highly insulated, render- finished external walls, dry-stone rubble walls and vividly coloured refuse stores. The homes were built for £462,000.
