New architect imminent for Walbrook Square

A new architect for Walbrook Square is set to be announced, following the developer’s decision to revive the scheme, originally designed by Foster + Partners and Jean Nouvel

Legal & General are deliberating over a ‘final two’ picked from its six-strong shortlist of architects for the project in the City of London. The winner is set to be announced imminently.

The appointed architect will be tasked with delivering a revised vision for the 83,600m² scheme.

L&G last week announced the revival of the project, pushing ahead with demolition of the 1950s office block, Bucklersbury House, which currently dominates the site close to Bank underground station.

Foster + Partners and Jean Nouvel in 2007 bagged planning for a ‘Darth Vader’s helmet’ scheme (pictured) for the 1.5 hectare site. But the £300 million scheme stalled in the summer of 2009.
