AJ100: NBBJ has been crowned New Practice of the Year 2014 at an awards ceremony in London tonight (22 May)
Our highest new entrant this year, a practice founded in 1943 by a group of Seattle architects, is a re-entry, returning to the AJ100 after a six-year absence.
Practices that have entered the AJ100 for the first time, or after five years’ absence, are eligible for this award which is sponsored by the Rooflight Company.
The UK studio of this US-headquartered, multidisciplinary company has made a name for itself in the fields of healthcare and education. Last year it worked on a slew of higher education projects, including the Materials Science and Metallurgy building for the University of Cambridge and the Cass Business School Executive Education premises for City University.
Banking a substantial £5.3 million in fees last year, its UK office is also the biggest employer of female architects per head among AJ100 firms – 60 per cent of the firm’s 25 architects are women. The expanding studio has outgrown its Southwark office and relocated to a bigger space in Shoreditch.
