National Energy Foundation HQ, and a new live/work development in Bermondsey
Where did you do your year out?
For a variety of reasons I didn't take a traditional year-out post, although I was involved with a number of competitions and worked on a contract basis for several practices
Where was your first job?
My first 'architectural' job was in 1984 working in a small office during the summer holidays

What do you most like about being an architect?
I'm not an architect
What do you like least about being an architect?
Getting the blame for other people's mistakes
What are your favourite buildings?
My personal preferences don't follow a particular pattern, but tend to revolve around buildings that are driven by and evoke a strong aesthetic/material response.
Among these I would list HHPJ's Astronaut memorial, much of Rem Koolhaas' recent work, Hans Scharoun's Staadtsbibliotek and a row of beach huts at Hengistbury Head in Dorset. I would also include Itsuko Hasegawa's fruit museum, Kazuyo Sejima's Pachinko parlours and Peter Zumthor's Bregenze gallery

Christine Hawley for teaching design discipline (a bit late in my case! ); my fifth-year thesis on Paul Virilio; all the books I read; my bank manager What would you like to be doing in ten years' time?
