Muf prepares meanwhile use for Foster’s Croydon site

Muf Architects has floated a meanwhile-use concept for the site of Foster + Partners’ proposed Ruskin Square overhaul in east Croydon, London

The Clerkenwell-based company has devised a temporary use for the 4ha town centre site which received the green light for mixed-use redevelopment three months ago.

Exact details of the proposal have yet to be revealed and a spokesperson for the developers Stanhope and Schroders said a decision on whether to pursue a meanwhile use had not been made.

The Ruskin Square project was masterplanned by Foster + Partners and features 600 residential units designed by AHMM. The project aims to create a new business hub at the ‘front door’ to Croydon.

The project was redesigned to take account of a Studio Egret West and Hawkins\Brown-designed pedestrian bridge which is planned to span a nearby railway track and scheduled to complete in 2013.
