Bridge specialist Moxon and Glasgow-based Euan Maharg have been shortlisted in the contest to design a new green bridge over a motorway in the Seven Lochs Wetland Park, Scotland

The two outfits feature among five practices shortlisted for the Glasgow Institute of Architects and Glasgow and Clyde Valley Green Network Partnership-backed ideas competition.

The finalist practices are:

  • Cousins and Cousins Architects, London
  • Euan Maharg, Glasgow
  • Gavin Murray and Alison Hesketh, Glasgow
  • Moxon Architects, London and Aberdeenshire
  • Optimised Environments, Edinburgh

A total of eighteen entries were received into the competition which sought ideas to bridge the M73 and connect existing public routes within the 20,000m² park.

Scott Ferguson of the Glasgow and Clyde Valley Green Network Partnership said: ‘The standard of entries was incredibly high – and it was great to see a range of different design solutions being put forward.

‘Iʼm really looking forward to hearing more about the shortlisted entries.’

The competing proposals include a series of green crossings by Moxon, Cousins and Cousins’ ‘bartizan’ viewing platforms and Euan Maharg’s woodland habitat bridge.

The five finalists will present their schemes during a public event at the DNA Hub, South Frederick Street, Glasgow, on Wednesday 13 November between 6pm and 9pm.

The judging panel will select the first, second and third place schemes the same evening. The event will also feature a presentation from by the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust on the restoration of Provan inside the Seven Lochs Park.
