Poole-based Morgan Carey Architects have received outline planning permission for a £5 million brewery at Blandford St Mary

The mixed-use scheme for the brewers of Badger Ale, Hall and Woodhouse will feature 200 residential units, commercial space and community buildings.

Mogan Carey Architects prepared a concept masterplan for a street layout connecting a series of urban spaces, and including the conversion of the existing brewery following the construction of the new brewery.

Mark Woodhouse, vice-chairman of Dorset-based Hall and Woodhouse brewers said: ‘Hall & Woodhouse has been brewing Badger ales for over 225 years and this development means we will be doing so for many more generations to come.

‘An investment of this magnitude demonstrates our ongoing commitment to brewing in Blandford and to the continued growth of our premium bottled and cask ales.’

The development has received outline planning permission and work will begin on-site in October subject to final planning permission being granted .

Liz Goodall, Chief Executive of North Dorset District Council said: ‘The Council has given outline planning consent for the brewery development which will secure a number of community and economic benefits for the area.

‘We see the continuation of brewing in Blandford Forum as a real plus for the local economy and for local jobs.’

The project, which is in a conservation area, was chosen as a pilot study for the government Planning Delivery Agreement initiative with North Dorset District Council.
