Model-maker to sell RMJM Gazprom work to highest bidder

A disgruntled model maker, owed £70,000 by RMJM, is putting his model of the bankrupt firm’s Gazprom tower up for sale

Henry Milner is one of several creditors who have no hope of getting their money back following the collapse of RMJM’s companies in the UK with debts of more than £6 million.

Milner’s model of the Gazprom tower - the controversial 300m-tall skyscraper originally designed to sit in central St Petersburg - stands at 2.5m high and has a fully programmable light show, linked to an app which allowed it to be controlled via mobile phone.

Work on the model, together with storage fees and tickets he bought to Russia for installations, which he claims RMJM later cancelled, have brought the balance of his work up to £70,000 and he has now decided to exhibit his model with a view to finding a buyer for it.

He is working on a scale model of Tatlin’s Tower to exhibit alongside the Gazprom model, and already had agreements from GRAD (Gallery of Russian Art and Design) in London and the Edinburgh College of Art to host his works, and is hoping to take the models to St Petersburgh too.

‘It works well as you have a large Russian diaspora in London, RMJM is based in Edinburgh, and the building was intended for St Petersburg,’ Milner said.

‘I want to say to the world: Look out. Even if you have a contract, and a court decree saying that a company owes you fees, this does not mean you will get paid. A company can go under and with the same management set up another company and still have no obligation to pay you.’

He added: ‘Luckily, I never handed the model over, and now I need to see if anybody wants to buy it.’
