MoD 'wedge' to get Buckley Gray Yeoman overhaul

Buckley Gray Yeoman has bagged consent for the overhaul of 10 Bloomsbury Place, the former Military of Defence (MoD) building on a triangluar plot in central London

The 22,000m2 office and retail scheme for London & Regional Properties features a new glazed top floor and a new entrance.

The architect’s view

Given its MoD history, the building has a defensive and closed appearance. The radical reinvention of the building for London & Regional Properties will see the addition of a new glazed top floor with generous roof terraces and stunning views. Overhanging eaves will frame the building elegantly whilst also working to reduce glare and solar gain.

Our scheme re-orientates the building’s primary entrance from its current position on Bloomsbury Way to the building’s apex on the corner of Bloomsbury Way and New Oxford Street.

The window surround and balcony at the apex of the building will also be removed in order to suit the reorientation of the building and the new canopied entrance will be enhanced by a three-storey metal-and-glass bay window above that will give the corner much-needed emphasis and character without losing the elegant proportions of the original structure.
