What rugby players may not have realised during the World Cup at Cardiff's new Millennium Stadium was what lay beneath their feet - revealed by this construction photo. Precast-concrete box culverts carry air up into the 'palletised' pitch to prevent soggy turf areas. A pumping unit, feeding a system of ducting running along the centreline, was laid using 50 precast concrete box culverts manufactured by Milton Pipes Ltd. Air actually 'percolates' through the pallet 'eggboxes' up into the grass.
