Millennium Commission funding

  • Comment

Millennium Commission funding and two raking steel masts support the 80m-long Lockmeadow footbridge in Maidstone, Kent, which was opened last week.

Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects with structural engineer Flint & Neill Partnership, it has a single central pier from which the masts rise, supporting the bridge with cables anchored to either side of the deck. The slender deck uses aluminium extrusions to act as both structure and decking.
