news

The Millennium Bridge, designed by Foster and Partners and sculptor Sir Anthony Caro, has won planning permission from Southwark Council's planning and traffic management sub-committee. The toll-free pedestrian bridge, awarded £7.1 million from the Millennium Commission and a further £1 million from the Government Office for London through the Cross River Partnership, will open in spring 2000 and will link the St Paul's steps area to the Tate Gallery of Modern Art at Bankside.
