Middlesex looks for designer for 10,000-student campus

Middlesex University is set to begin a search for architects on a new 10,000 student campus at Tottenham Hale in north London.

The high-profile scheme will feature accommodation for about 1,500 students, which will also be used for the 2005 World Athletics Championships at nearby Pickett's Lock, as well as teaching buildings for all the major faculties.

The university spent about £8 million last month on acquiring the 3ha site - which had previously been earmarked for a black and ethnic minorities arts centre (AJ 3.8.00). This now looks set to be built on an alternative site. A masterplan for the scheme has been designed by TM2, formerly Tibbalds Monro, and a competition for the buildings will be run in September following an advert in the Official Journal of the European Community, said director of communications Marie Jackson.
