In just five weeks - from commission to completion - Metal UK has turned an art gallery-inspired vision into a reality behind a traditional family home in Grafton Square, south-west London. Where there used to be an old wooden-framed conservatory, there now stands an elegant glass enclosure rising to embrace the first floor with almost no visible support.

Made from a five-layer sandwich of 12mm toughened and 2mm laminated glass, two vertical and two sloping beams are the key to the success of the design, providing a high degree of unobtrusive strength.

A soffit box at the roof joint supports the main roof members.
