While sexism in the architectural workplace can be one of the difficulties faced by women ('Women 'forced out by overt sexism'', AJ 3.4.03), surely the point is not that 'practices make working life untenable for women', but that practices need to make working life easier for everyone.
Your own statistics show that 50 per cent of men would like more flexible working arrangements (AJ 27.3.03). Quality of life is vastly improved by flexibility at work. We hear about motherhood, but not fatherhood - the surprise is not that women complain, it's that men don't!
