McAslan to double Manchester Science Park

  • Comment

Manchester Science Parks is to be revamped by architects John McAslan + Partners, creating 23,000m² of new floorspace for technology, creative and biotech firms.

The new masterplan, which will be delivered in a number of phases over the next decade, will reshape the 9.3 hectare corridor site in the Oxford Road area of the city and nearly double the total amount of lettable space to 43,664m².

The reshaping of the site will see the construction of seven new buildings through a phased and flexible development framework, and it is hoped the changes will strengthen the physical links between the science park and the city’s hospitals, promoting collaborations, improve links with the city centre and provide more open public spaces.

The plan for the future is part of the vision set out by Corridor Manchester, the partnership set up to deliver economic growth and investment along the city’s Oxford Road corridor.

The masterplan is expected to be delivered in a number of phases over the next decade.

Tony Skipper, managing director of John McAslan + Partners, said: ‘Over the next few years, we will see Manchester Science Park become a much bigger part of city life. We are delighted to be working on such a prominent scheme that will reshape the ways in which Manchester’s leading institutions and resources will interlink and collaborate.’
